Resistance Welding

For many years welding has been an integral part of the industrial world. Simply put, welding is a process which joins two materials, usually metals, to form a solid joint. Nearly all manufacturing sectors make use of this procedure on a regular basis. Although welding is a necessary process, it is important to recognize that there are many different varieties that all serve different functions. Resistance welding, for example, is a specialized form with many sub-categories like spot welding, seam welding, shot welding, and flash welding. The process generally starts with two or more metal surfaces placed together to create resistance. Then, a current is sent through the materials to join them.

Resistance welding is beneficial due to its energy efficiency, outstanding production rate, and the low risk of deformation in the work piece. There are, however, two main drawbacks to the process. The first drawback is that the equipment cost can be high. However, if the company has invested wisely then this typically isn’t an issue. The second downside is that resistance welding is only used in certain applications. Still, for those applications, this process is extremely useful. Resistance welding is used quite a bit in the auto industry. The frequency it is needed in this sector alone makes companies that excel in this process very much sought after.

One of the primary components to having this application go well is something known as a resistance welding cable. Without these items, the process would not be possible. There are a variety of options when it comes to this product including water cooled jumpers, air cooled jumpers, and kickless cables. One aspect to consider is whether a robot or human will be doing the welding. Some models of resistance welding cables are designed specifically to reduce stress on the wrists, arms, and shoulders when manual welding is needed. Choosing a company that prides themselves on producing high quality, innovative products is of course essential, but it also pays to find a business which can get you a new cable within a day. Only a business with an experienced staff is capable of this type of fast turnaround.
